Digital portfolios to showcase student achievements

Graham Woollard

Digital Learning Champion, and ICT Lecturer

What effect did it have on learning?
The digital portfolios have allowed all learners who have created one to reflect on their learner
journey. They have found it very rewarding and have ended up with portfolio which contains a link
to all their work over the year. A portfolio they can now use to showcase themselves, whether they
be seeking employment or progressing onto other courses. It has also urged them to reflect on their
transferable or soft skills they have developed over the year and to reflect on areas they may need
to improve.

Have you extended the ARC to other groups?
The intention is to expand the digital portfolios to the rest of the curriculum area next academic
year.

Did the ARC project work for some or all learners?
The ARC project has worked for all the learners who participated. Learners have found creating their
digital portfolios an easy way to reflect on their own performance over the last year, reflect on the
skills they have acquired – both soft skills and course related skills. Plus it has given them a
professional personal website to showcase their work.

What would you consider the highest impact the ARC has had?
The highest impact has been the way the digital portfolio project has forced learners to reflect on
their own performance throughout the year.

What are you plans next year?
It is expected that the digital portfolio project will be developed further and also rolled out to the
rest of the curriculum area.
